Filipino singer-songstress Gabby Nacua has recently released her new single ‘Little Bit Shy,’ a sultry tune that speaks to the lovesick wallflowers and introverts with romantic visuals to match.
Gabby is no stranger to Western Sydney’s brand of R&B and soul, having teamed up with artists such as INQ and Glenn Lumanta in the past - and now this time, in collaboration with Deja Miru she’s branching out to release her own music. Directed by Aye Soe, the new video for ‘Little Bit Shy’ shows her Pinay diva singing in ethereal settings. From wheat fields and Australian fauna, to late sunsets and red curtains a la In the Mood for Love, Gabbi croons to seductive synths and a dreamy drumbeat, almost reminiscent of Kali Uchis’s Por Vida era.

While many love songs in our modern era are deeply confessional about their romance and admiration, Gabby is not afraid to admit to her modesty. She open the song with ‘I’m a little bit shy / Won’t say what’s on my mind / until I’m out of time.’ Although her costumes and makeup are dynamic and poppy, her lyricism tell another story. She expresses her inability to come forward and disclose herself to a potential lover - a struggle us shy gals know too well!
A warm, yet nocturnal track, Gabby makes it clear her love language is one taking place within the late hours. ‘I will let you see inside my mind,’ she expresses to us as she contemplates openly about late-night movies and conversations.

Furthermore, Gabby’s production holds a distinctive neo-soul flare that underscores her tapestry of delicate, feminine vocals. ‘Would you like to get to know me?,’ she sings in the latter half of the song, rolling with cascading voices. We lock eye contact with Gabby across the video - with her block-coloured eyeshadow, alluring movements, and sensual close-ups to match, her ways of inviting us into her world is effortless. She performs a magic for the camera that speaks to us almost telepathically, as if there is more to her beyond her shyness.
