In need of some Valentine’s Day tunes to add to your playlists? You’ve come to the right place. Following her most recent drop South Of France released late last year, Sydney artist Edgez is back to give us Butterflies with her latest single.

The nature of the song surrounds a budding relationship where both parties want more, but are battling the small bump of commitment issues. The lyrics are a push and pull of ‘You make me feel giddy inside, but am I ready to settle down?’ and ‘Can I trust you?’. As much as we all loved Taylor Swift’s version, there’s a new direction for the millennial love story trope and Edgez is ready to bring you along for the ride.

As the brainchild of the genius collaboration between producers Shue and Orca!, this song was released with the utmost care for quality. The beat is easy on the ears from the start, and paired with Edgez’ silky, honey-like tone, this makes for a sweet experience.

The chimes and flutes between the chorus beats add such a unique twist and break the monotony of the track. What really hit me as I focused in on it was the way the chimes almost mimic that magical mystical creature vibe, as if a swarm of butterflies were flying around your head. It truly brings to life the whole ‘butterflies in your tummy’ experience for the listener. Whether it was intentional or not, it’s a brilliant piece of musical onomatopoeia.

On the whole, this song is a feel good, laid-back track that gets you in the mood for a cuddle, and especially with the day of love coming up, it’s all the more welcome in my single-self’s playlist!

You can check out the rest of Edgez’ music on Spotify, Soundcloud and YouTube under the same name!
