THE WHY
The Western saw a need to fill a gap in Sydney’s dynamic yet ever-central media landscape. A cultural publication that focused on the beauty that comes from the West. What started off as one person with a microphone, soon grew into a small family of two - and then three, and then four. Here we are, just a few years later, with a family that knows no bounds. Specialising in design, editorial, and social, The Western has become a hub for all the misfits, the invisibles, and the underdogs. This community driven project is overflowing with passion and love. The Western is still within its infancy, but as it matures, it will learn and grow to make changes for the better. We hope to create such change that those who come from the West are able to stand up with their heads held up high, and be able to be proud of where they come from.

The Western acknowledges the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first inhabitants of the nation and the traditional custodians of the lands where we live, learn and work. We stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.
The western respects and accepts different cultures and are passionate about spreading cultural awareness whenever given a platform.
