BRODËM - NES AFARA x RARA X
Why isn’t anyone talking about BRODËM? Since Mount Druitt’s drill group Onefour dropped their music, the Western Sydney music scene has been drowned out by drill. The latest EP from Nes Afara and Rara X has finally given us a long awaited break from pedestrian artists. A well produced hip-hop/ trap influenced collaboration has reminded us of the promising future of Western Sydney artists.
When I first heard the song ‘EASE’ I couldn't help but put this track on repeat. This EP is definitely one to be shared. I bet you’re wondering what BRODËM means. Nes simply explains that ‘BRODËM is used referring to someone you consider to be family. Not only are Rara X and myself brothers but everyone else that’s close to us that contributed to making the project are like brothers to us. We create as a group, all the time so the concept was an extension of our reality which is making something out of nothing with the BRODËM’. Mind. Blown.
With their passion for the arts and group of creative genius’ the two were able to create the EP. ‘We spend a lot of time together as a group of friends, artists and creatives. So we got to create what we felt like. The rest just lined up easier for us from there. Once the vibes are there we’re just having fun doing what we love’ shares Nes. Together with NUMB founder, John Bouquet and his brother Kevin Bouquet they created the cover of the EP.
It’s definitely not easy starting out a creative project and of course there are some challenges the artists faced. Throughout the creative process, they were able to walk away with learnt experiences. The process had taught them how to communicate better, understand the importance of managing and working within a team and being able to embrace the process of creating. The journey became easy with the destination in mind, showing us that there is power in knowing your why. ‘ It definitely was a challenge to be consistent, I think we overcame those challenges mainly because we were all on the same page from the jump. At the core we just wanted to bring this project to life so it made dealing with challenges less of a worry’ said Nes.
Raising the bar for hiphop artists in the west, the two have dedicated their time and energy throughout the COVID-19 lockdown. ‘This EP means I have fulfilled the goal of creating something I can truly be proud of with my brother; involving all the homies in the process, which made for some great memories. This EP also means we’re establishing ourselves more as artists; making 2 projects in 2020 means we’re manifesting our dreams’ says Rara X.
We’re definitely keeping an eye on these two as there is definitely more to come. Check out their first single ‘EASE’ directed by Matt Wilson.
