vvpete / chris neto
vvpete brings new life to Leikeli47’s ‘I Got Money’ with a braggadocious and masterful music video to match. Finding a balance between the original track’s playfulness and her own charisma, the Mount Druitt rapper declares Sydney a ‘land of the trap’. Strutting her lyrical stuff for just over two minutes, she pays homage to Leikeli47’s video by scattering references throughout, featuring monochrome shots of balaclava-clad MC Stan Bravo, to the bold fuchsia backdrop.
Bravo lends his own voice in the final verse of the track, managing to weave nods to McDonalds and Forbes together with his own signature style. Complementing the syncopated delivery of vvpete, he raps about his hustle and million dollar ambitions.
The support given by such veteran artists gives hope to the thriving hip-hop community of Western Sydney, and if this remix is anything to go by, it’s only up for vvpete.
Local artist Chris Neto provides a change of musical pace, venturing into a flamenco-folk fusion with his latest track When You Found Me. The song was hinted at during his GRID sessions, where Neto described his music-making process as being both rewarding and emotionally taxing. Known for curating the growth of local artists, the Sydney vocalist cites the program as being a major factor in helping him collaborate and promote his music. The intensity of his sentiments shine through on his latest record, which outlines both the pain of separation from one’s beloved and the joy of reconnection.
With his stirring lyrics sitting atop a guitar driven instrumental, Neto is able to convey emotion simply though his distinctive vocals. The track culminates in a crescendo of lavish drumwork, letting the singer’s moment of relief swirl around as the song ends - ‘When you came around, when you came around’. The track’s engineering comes kudos to Everland Studios, who awarded Neto with a recording opportunity after he won their 2019 Demo Competition. Western Sydney expects big things from Neto, whose unique sound is sure to capture the ears and hearts of local indie fans.
