[REVIEW] TRUST IN ME - MA RATED
There’s only one man that can make the Hebersham shops romantic, and man is MA Rated (@ma.rated) . Trust in Me is the latest installment in the Argentinian/South-African artist’s repertoire, featuring production from Sygotbeats (@m.oziah). Following the demand from a quick TikTok freestyle, the track has been fleshed out into a fully-fledged banger complete with visuals from Aaron Bull (@__aaronbull). The single sees the Mounty County rapper promise his girl the world if she keeps her trust in him. Not a bad swap.

Departing from the afropop that we know and love, MA Rated shows his versatility by interpolating AJ Raphael upon a more soul-trap influenced instrumental. Sygotbeats brings his tried and tested drumwork to the track, creating a New Orleans bounce atmosphere behind the vocals. Performing keys as well as mixing Trust in Me, MA Rated proves his worth as one of the most exciting young artists in the scene.
With idyllic visuals from Aaron Bull, the music video sees MA Rated tour his girl around the neighbourhood whilst still finding time to record the hook from the opn.space studio (that yellow mural is pretty much part of the scene now). The car scenes are particularly cool, echoing the R&B videos of the early 2000’s. By the close of the video, the couple are slow-dancing on a hill in colour-matched outfits. If that doesn’t scream trust, idk what will.

2022 promises to be another stellar year for the rapper. With an EP on the way (ngl it’s gonna be worth the wait) and more collaborations and shows to come, it’s only a matter of time before MA Rated takes off internationally and ceases to be the west’s best kept secret.
