SOFT PEDAL
On Saturday 26 October, Blacktown Arts is hosting an immersive electronic music event called SOFT PEDAL. Blacktown Arts invites audiences to experience new music, sounds, and sensations by five highly acclaimed local artists.
We chatted to the curator, George Tillianakis, about the night. George is an experienced multi-disciplinary artist working across music, video, installation, design, and performance both in Australia and internationally. George currently has a selection of works at Artspace and Casula Powerhouse.
Soft Pedal means to change tone or tone something down. George found the inspiration for SOFT PEDAL through the city of Blacktown. ‘Nothing like this happens in Blacktown. I wanted to bring my dream lineup of artists together and have one night of escapism in somewhere other than the city.’
His curated artist lineup includes David Haines & Joyce Hinterding, Peter Blamey, Del Lumanta, and Chris Petro. ‘David Haines and Joyce Hinterding were lecturers of mine at the University of Western Sydney... as a kid I would follow them around to shows and watch with my mouth open.’ says George. He hopes audiences will switch off and be fully immersed with each of the five performers, transporting them outside of their usual experiences.
