[REVIEW] BROTHERS - Search 'N Destroy

Western Sydney drill is having a moment right now. Rap duo BROTHERS have laid down one of the hardest records of the year with their music video for Search ‘N Destroy. Amid smoky, suburban scenery, rappers @sebz.b and @izzyofficial warn against those who ‘flee like a bunch of fleas’.

But this isn’t your average drill track. Egyptian, Iraqi, Turkish, and Lebanese flags are waved liberally from a rooftop - BROTHERS are arguably the first rap duo to combine their Middle Eastern culture with their music. It’s not a superficial or aesthetic decision either, with manoush flavoured innuendo and Beirut shout-outs to boot. The duo are backed by their own face-mask wielding crew, who build up the intimidation factor.

The track begins at full pace, with the growled hook ringing in immediately - ‘The brothers are ready, we’re ready for war’. @sebz.b handles the first verse, making it known that he isn’t easily shaken ‘your attitude don’t offend me’. @izzyofficial takes the second verse, even letting @sebz.b finish his lines every so often. When it comes to holding their own, BROTHERS are pretty clear - ‘can’t associate with no fakes’. Balancing bars on sheer aggression and family ties, the duo manages to construct a warning message to naysayers, as well as a pact with each other.

@maxedoutfilms handles the film duties for Search ‘N Destroy, skillfully capturing the raw aggression and belligerence of BROTHERS. Cutting between shots of police intervention and birds-eye drone footage, the video’s professional finish only adds to the quality of the track. The music video currently sits at just over 33,000 views, with multiple mainstream reaction channels on YouTube having picked up on it. Search ‘N Destroy remains the only released single from BROTHERS, and we’re all very interested to see where they take their unique brand of drill. But more importantly, I just want one of those BROTHERS face-masks.
