Cool Jay from the 9, still in the area moving (groving) hustling to make that grind’ Lyrics from ‘Repeat’ by Jaecy featuring Pistol Pete and Enzo.
If you haven’t heard this track then please play it as you read this feature, I promise you, you’ll get hooked to the energy. I’d like to introduce you to John Charles or artistically known as Jaecy.
Jaecy, 19-year-old hip-hop/rap artist born in Guinea, West Africa, grew up in Bankstown. He is of Sierra Leonean and Liberian background. At 16 he found his passion for music and ultimately his talent in the life of being a show man. His artist name came from his initials ‘J.C’ but he added the a, e and y to give it that bit of flavour.
Jaecy performed at the Road to Restorations charity event that was hosted by The Function Sydney along with Knowledge By as well as at STTP Vol 2 that was hosted by Straight From the Poolroom. Jaecy is also involved in The Area Movement.
50 Cent, J Hus, Drake, Meek Mill, Skepta and even the blues, influence his music having this variety helps create a diversity in his sound. Not only this, but his voice/sound has been described as similar to 50 Cent, Skepta, Stormzy, J Hus. People have also said he looks like Burna Boy. His vision in the future is to be making music as his occupation but he also wants to try out acting and star in short films. You can check out his short film from two years ago on YoutTube under the title, Jesus Piece.
Seeing people smile is what makes him feel happy and it’s one of his favourite things about being a muso “I like putting a smile on people’s faces” He says while smiling himself. “My mum hearing my songs, her liking it” He pauses. “‘Cause I don’t even know if she knows what I’m talking about,“The recognition, like oh yeah you’re doing something, you’re straight” Jaecy adds. He has a lot of songs in the works with different artists but so far he has released just less than 10 songs over three years; four of them were released last year. “Everyones’ telling me ‘patience’ but for me, having them in the vault...it’s like having a piggy bank you just want to break” He reveals.
His next single WHATS GOOD will feature Delawou and will be released on 11th February.
Watch his space.
