The very first Welcome To The Area multi-gig line-up is happening this weekend! The festivities, set to begin on Thursday, 19 September, will feature an insane roster of local artists such as Hooligan Hefs, Rops1, Mitchos Da Menace, Lazy J, Sauti Systems, Elijah Yo and many more. Local female artists such as Jessica Jade, Ebony Boadu, and Gabby Nacua will be part of the line up (Yass Queens!). It’s time to elevate Western women and the incredible voices on offer.

Zig & Ricky, the geniuses behind The Area Movement, took a moment to chat with us about the Concert. The duo opened up about organising the event; their personal homage to new local talent and new experiences. They talk about ‘collaborating with the council to create more impactful events’, and reflect on their humble beginnings four years ago.

It was barely smooth sailing for the two, but a plus was ‘that there is too much talent out there that they would love to showcase and work with’. With limited resources, they want everyone to be heard - and this will be part of the building process for them.

Last year, the duo was able to make this a reality. Zig remembers the energy that was in the air - and he knew it was the perfect time to highlight and showcase talent from Western Sydney.

One of the headliners, Hooligan Hefs, hit over 6 million streams on Spotify in August - an incredible feat for the Doonside local. He’s set to perform unreleased music - live and exclusive for those attending.

The Western has their eye on Western Sydney’s own Ebony Boadu, who will be headlining the Friday’s Trill Sydney pop-up at Butter, Parramatta. Mitchos The Menace will be leading the Geedup pop-up shop at Milky Lane on the Saturday afternoon.

With a feisty offering bursting with local talent, Welcome To The Area is a statement. Western Sydney is a community, and a collective, and we’re here to stay.

The beginning of many events to come, these concerts represent an important milestone: mind-blowing music production and urban talent is no longer just for fancy labels and Inner West clubs.
