SOUND WEST & SONY PARTNERSHIP

Dust off your Scarlett 2i2 and for goodness sakes, stop recording vocal takes in your car because SOUND WEST (@soundwestsydney) have partnered with Sony Music Australia (@sonymusicaustralia) to give an emerging artist the chance to receive the mentorship program of a lifetime. In anticipation of the SOUND WEST Music & Technology Festival happening between the 23rd and 28th of August, this competition gives artists the chance to work closely with Sony Music through mentoring sessions, studio time and networking opportunities.

Entry into the program is simple. Artists can submit three pieces of work each, from which ten finalists will be chosen. These finalists will be invited to attend SOUND WEST on Thursday the 25th of August where they will receive mentorship from Sony Music Australia’s Senior Director of A&R and Creative Development Alexander Franco. Also included is a 30-minute listening and A&R session with Sony Music experts and an A&R creative and business session.

From this session, one winner will be selected for the 6 month mentorship program, complete with four free (and engineered) studio sessions with Sony Music, two in-person mentoring sessions with Sony’s A&R, as well as networking support. The mentorship is open nation-wide, with judges looking for an overall ‘creative proposition and sound’ alongside ‘the demonstrated ability to make professional music.

This program is an extension of the SOUND WEST Festival, described by City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Donna Davis as a ‘landmark event for Parramatta’. The festival is part of a concerted effort to support the Western Sydney music scene after the devastation of COVID-19. Sony Music Australia needs no introduction, being the home to artists such as Amy Shark, The Kid Laroi and Tones and I.

So what’s next? Bounce out those submissions (in 24-bit WAV ofc) and drop them here for your chance to work with Sony Music Australia.
