Anybody looking for some new music to scope out? I got you! Allow me to introduce you to Maxine and her new single Do It

Hitting the R&B scene after coming from musical theatre might sound like an interesting choice, but this Queen knows no bounds when it comes to genre.

This track is a daydream wrapped in the ribbon of a smooth bass line, easy beat and sensual vibes. It has you feeling like you’re stuck in a trance, but one you don’t want to snap out of.

The first six seconds hook you in with this little ‘Gatsby-jazz-party-meets-John-Mayer’s-guitar’ bit, then suddenly the beat drops and takes your heart with it.

The voice of this woman is so soft and sweet, especially in those vulnerable crying inflections at the end of every line, yet not a single note hesitates. Singing a whole song in your chest voice is tiring and risky for the dynamics of a song, but with the control she has, those thoughts don’t even cross your mind. Girl, you’ve got my respect!

Do It is one of those songs which don't need fancy instrumentals and ridiculous runs for it to be a hit. This is another example of how simplicity doesn’t mean boring, but there’s so much more to a song.

Let’s talk lyrics. Love is talked about in so many different ways in music, but sometimes you just gotta be real and have fun with it, and that’s exactly what Do It is.

There’s this sexy assertiveness that exudes from this song, and it just fits Maxine’s vibe perfectly. Her confidence is so inspiring that she’s got me body-rolling like nobody’s watching.

Shy isn’t a word that comes to mind when you hear these lyrics, and that’s okay! There aren’t supposed to be reservations in love so why should there be when you express it?

Check out the Do It teaser of the music video, made in collaboration with Bodega Collective, below. Stay tuned for the track’s drop Friday, 6 August!
