NOBODY ELSE [REVIEW]
The cover art for Kate Chidiac’s (@katechidzz) new single Nobody Else is haunting to say the least. Opting to shoot the artwork where she spent so many dates with her ex, the off-centered placement of the artist gives the impression of incompleteness; and the absence of another figure hints at the thematic hues of the single.
Delving into heartache and longing, Chidiac’s latest offering is a smooth R&B cut that exhibits newfound maturity after the artist’s explosive debut Need to Know. With local legend Pax (@paxonthebeat) covering production, Chidiac set out to “create a smooth ambience and evoke vulnerability”. Steady production lends itself to the dreamy vocal performance, blending elements of trapsoul and classic R&B. The result is a soul-baring track that draws inspiration from vocalists such as Alina Baraz and Jhene Aiko.
The sophomore single is Chidiac’s “vocalised journal entry”. Lyrically, the artist conveys her anguish through an emotive vocal delivery. Sitting effortlessly atop the heartfelt instrumental, Nobody Else showcases the artist’s honesty. This authenticity is reflected in Chidiac’s songwriting, with her lyrics reading more like an intimate conversation than a piece of music.
With such promise at an early stage in her career, Chidiac is sure to grow in leaps and bounds. Here’s hoping that the next single builds on the transparency of Nobody Else. With consistency, the artist can make herself a unique path within the pop/R&B scene. More music is on the horizon for Chidiac, with singles and collaborative tracks already locked in.
