[MIX REVIEW] MRYSID - Hey Lover
Mary Isidro (@mrysid) has no business getting me all dreamy weeks before February 14th. Her breezy, thirty-minute Hey Lover mix has it all, spanning from SoundCloud gems and R&B staples, to D’Angelo’s (slightly more superior) take on Smokey Robinson’s Cruisin.
Dedicated to her significant other, the blissful mix is a perfect balance of starry-eyed slow jams and straight-out nostalgia. Standing at just less than a half-hour, Hey Lover is the perfect pick-me-up for the romantics.
Isidro has been able to channel her love for videography and music into helping up-and-coming hip-hop collective Inquisitive Minds (@inq.uisitiveminds) become one of the most sought after Western Sydney acts. Last year, she officially became their DJ, bringing their live shows to life while also shooting their Be and Hundred Trillion visuals. The chemistry she has with the duo is evident, bringing a keen sense of sophistication to their simple yet effective music videos. Just look at the colour grading in their Hundred video and you’ll know what I mean.
She describes herself as ‘believing in the message and their intentions’, with the partnership helping fuel her own passions and creative endeavours. A quick skim through their insta reveals that she handles the bulk of their visual media as well. Photography appears to come naturally to Isidro, with local artists such as Thandi (@thqndi) and SOLLYY (@gwsollyy) both making cameos on her Instagram.
The multitalented creative is one to watch over 2020, as she intends to make DJing a priority and continue to work with Inquisitive Minds. Maybe it’s time to make it a trio then?
You can catch her first solo set at Kelly’s Newtown on Saturday, 29 February. Oh, and a special shoutout to whoever puts her in the feels to make these mixes. You are the real MVP.
