[EP RELEASE] - MAROYAKA KASE AVILA & JADE KENJI
Western Sydney DJ and producer Kase Avila has teamed up with vocalist and rapper Jade Kenji to release their latest collaborative mixtape, entitled ‘Maroyaka’. The mix-tape is a showcase of their love for classic RnB sounds, punctuated with the urban tempo of Japanese hip-hop through remixes.
Kase Avila successfully released his first project ‘Minerva’ in 2020, challenging himself to build his technicality and skills. He has become well known in the Western Sydney hip hop instrumentalist scene, and the Aussie music scene as a whole. Whilst paving his way in the music scene, Kase crossed paths with Jade Kenji, a new artist in the scene, known for fearlessly presenting her vulnerabilities on and off stage. Jade brings back the boom-bap and New Jack Swing style, all whilst keeping her own unique swagger.
This collaboration birthed ‘Marokaya’, named after the Japanese tea, described as smooth in tone and taste. Their remixes have depth and meaning, highlighting the uniqueness of Asian identity. Evidently, this is a crucial time to celebrate the beauty that comes out of Asian culture, with the rise of Asian hate crime during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kase and Jade both find themselves in the middle of this phenomenon, and aim to share that Asian’s should not and cannot be pigeon-holed.
The concept of the EP has been influenced by artist Lynn Nguyen's manga-inspired illustrations.
Embrace Asian culture and listen to the beautifully produced sounds.
Available on all streaming platforms on Friday the 23rd of July.
