4ESYDNEY Hip-Hop Festival and Conference
Excited to be out of the confines of the Zoom-iverse, 4ESydney’s Hip-Hop Festival and Conference (@4esydney) is back in the flesh this coming weekend (June 24th and 25th). With a star-studded lineup of artists and community leaders alike, this year’s program promises to be a thoroughly informative and eye-opening experience. The festival will be held at the Blacktown Arts Center over the course of two days, allowing attendees to experience a full day of industry insight and bangin’ performances, respectively.
4ESydney kicks off on Friday June 24th a series of panels and seminars about the music industry and what it means to be an artist in a post-COVID world. The day will begin with a welcome to country and smoking ceremony, followed by a keynote address from Dr Alethea Beetson (BLAKSOUND) about systemic change or the lack thereof. In the afternoon, panels about the hip-hop world and community building in the modern era will be delivered featuring industry figures from music and the creative arts as well as designers, activists and artistic directors. There will also be performances throughout the day from local heavyweights including MC Trey, Luka Lesson, Zeadala, Emily Wurramara and Áine Tyrrell.
The following day is the aptly titled festival, where from lunchtime onwards, the Blacktown Arts Center will be buzzing with musical performances, graffiti, dance competitions, exhibitions and more. Artists such as Barkaa, Kobie Dee and A.Girl will be gracing the stage all on the Saturday, which commences at midday and runs until 10pm. There will also be a host of DJ’s on the day, with an open mic segment for all budding emcee’s.
4ESydney prides itself on contributing greatly to the hip-hop scene in Sydney, as well as providing a platform for First Nations artists to hone their craft. Now in its eighth iteration, the festival has consolidated itself as a mainstay in the music industry calendar.
